We strive to showcase the best of the continent; however, the social and economic dichotomies that exist are unavoidable features of any travel experience in Africa.

Through our tours and travel, we encounter people whose lives we can vastly improve with a little help. As a small company we do not have the capacity to take on large, financially heavy projects. However, we can change the lives of a few individuals who may then change the lives of a few more…

Therefore, we donate 1.5% of each trip booked with Active Africa to our NGOMSO (tomorrow in isiXhosa) fund. By assisting the selected beneficiaries, we aim to enhance their futures in positive ways. Above all, we wish for all of our travellers to arrive in Africa knowing that their trip with us is making a difference to an individual life in some small way.

In addition, we are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travellers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. We are asking you to save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for the projects we support in need. Sinovuyo Seniors Group

Assisting vulnerable and often-forgotten members of the community

The Khayelitsha-based Sinovuyo Seniors Group provides seniors in the community with a safe place to gather during the week. Formed in 2015, the club currently comprises around 30 members.

The focus of activities involves keeping seniors active and engaged. Furthermore, the club is a place to discuss challenges affecting the elderly. Importantly, it is a locus from which to provide care and support for the elderly and frail.

Each day starts with a prayer and exercise, followed by breakfast, gardening activities, sharing stories and sports. Ladies gather to chat while knitting and crocheting blankets and scarves which they sell to raise funds for the centre. Finally, after lunch, the group cleans up, sings and ends the day with a prayer.

Through our association with Uthando South Africa, we have committed to making quarterly donations to Sinovuyo from our Ngomso Fund. This commitment provides some of the resources needed to ensure the centre remains a place of comfort and safety.

All travellers are offered authentic cultural encounters on Active Africa trips. While in Cape Town, we encourage our visitors to spend time at the Sinovuyo Seniors Club to meet these wonderful, wise souls.
