Walking in Kruger National Park

Despite its size, there is no question that walking in Kruger National Park is the best way to experience it.  South Africa’s largest national park is approximately the size of New Jersey and borders two neighbouring countries. Lying to the north east of the country, the park borders Mozambique in the east and Zimbabwe to the north.

Tucked away in the remote northern reaches of the Kruger National Park, nestled between two rivers, lies a unique wilderness area unlike any other in South Africa. The Makuleke Contractual Park is a joint partnership between the historically resident Makuleke people and South African National Parks. It lies in one of the most diverse areas of the greater Kruger park. As a result of this wide range in landscape and topographical features, this area is the perfect location for walking safaris.

Our Kruger walking safaris provide relaxed, unhurried, heart and soul experiences of the African bush. Flexibility is paramount in an area were nature rules. While we have an overall plan for the day, the finer details happen in the moment. One thing is for sure, there will be something new and exciting to see and learn about every day. It could be watching elephants drink from the river or buffalo crossing the flood plain. We may be identifying as many birds as we can find in one of the RAMSAR wetlands.  Or we may just enjoy the solitude of the fever tree forest.  Of course no day in the African bush is complete without watching the sunset, perhaps from the bush one evening and from the river on another. One never knows who may be needing a drink at the end of the day.

The northern-most region of the Kruger National Park is situated in a malaria area. We recommend the use of malaria prophylactic medication.
