Chapman’s Peak is an easy summit to bag in a morning. We recommend this route for anyone wanting to raise the heart rate with a morning to spare. With an early start, fit hikers can incorporate the route into a regular peninsula tour.

Remember that our guides are contracted for a full day so we offer a combo Chapman’s Peak hike with a mini-peninsula tour, taking in Victoria Drive and Chapman’s Peak Drive with a stop in Noordhoek, returning via Ou Kaapseweg and the Constantia winelands. At the agent’s request, we will add wine tasting and/or lunch to offer a full day tour.

Chapman's Peak summit

Best option for: Guests who want to bag a scenic on the peninsula, particularly as part of a peninsula touring day.

Duration: 3-4 hours / 5km (3 miles)

Description: An out and back climb to the summit, the route initially ascends steeply to cross over a small stream to gain a broad ridgeline.  From here the path ascends gradually, taking in a false summit before eventually topping out on a rocky summit with great views over Noordhoek Beach, Chapmans Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and Hout Bay.  We return via the same route.

Grade: Moderate – good mountain trails that can be rocky underfoot. The upper sections of the mountain involve some light scrambles.

Experience & Fitness Level Required: A moderate to good level of hiking fitness required to cope with a sustained ascent and descent, along with comfort walking over uneven ground.

Constantiaberg Loop

Best option for: Guests who want to explore mountains on the peninsula, particularly as part of a peninsula touring day.

Duration: 3-4 hours / 5km (3 miles)

Description: After exploring the ruins of the East Fort, built in the 1800’s to protect shipping in Chapmans Bay, the trail ascends slowly to gain the high contour path below the huge cliffs of Constantiaberg.  We cross a number of waterfalls and scramble our way over rocky stream beds with an option to visit the Manganese mines before descending gently back to the van.  A good leg stretch of a hike offering unparalleled views of Chapmans Bay and beyond.

Grade: Easy to Moderate – good mountain trails that can be rocky underfoot. The upper sections of the mountain involve some slightly exposed ledges and narrow paths.

Experience & Fitness Level Required: A moderate level of hiking fitness required along with comfort walking over uneven ground.

  • IMPORTANT POINTS

    PLEASE NOTE:  

    • A festive season surcharge of ZAR300 per trip is applicable between 20 December & 5 January  
    • Operation of the cable car is beyond our control and it can close at any stage due to inclement weather. In this event we are required to walk off the mountain – an additional 2hrs of hiking.  Please ensure guests are aware of this.
    • A recommended kit list is available on request.
