An active twist on the classic Cape Town stay, we focus on spending your time outdoors. Explore Table Mountain, the city, the Cape Peninsula and the winelands on foot or by bike. Slow down to take in the soul of the city and the beauty of these tourism icons. We do it in a way that avoids the crowds and offers an insider’s experience, crammed full of experiences.

But we prefer not to pile you into a van and drive. The best way to get to know a new destination is slowly. So we will hike the mountains, walk the city streets and bike the open roads. We want to welcome you as new friends and show you the places we love. We want to introduce you to people who may change your life; or at least change your thinking. And we want you to leave Cape Town loving it as much as we do.

Day ONE

Table Mountain & The Mother City

Our guide will meet you at your Cape Town hotel this morning for a recommended early start, exploring perhaps the most iconic landmark in the city, Table Mountain.

While we prefer to hike less-used routes, we will adapt the route to suit your fitness and preferences, ensuring the most enjoyment of the hike.

After a café lunch at one of the cities renowned eateries, join your guide for a stroll or a bike ride in the city, blending the historical sites with an insider’s view of contemporary Cape Town before returning you to your hotel.

Day TWO

Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope

We are out all day today, exploring the peninsula and all that it offers.

Our first stop of the day is in the Cape Point Nature Reserve. We move away from the crowds to a remote corner of the reserve, taking the morning to enjoy the solitude and wide open spaces on a scenic hike along the beach and through the coastal bush.

The journey would not be complete without a visit to the south-western most point of the African continent at the Cape of Good Hope. We visit in the early afternoon to brave the crowds, enhancing the stop with a short, but stunning cliff edge walk from the Cape Point lighthouse.

On our return to Cape Town we visit with a colony of endangered African Penguins before toasting the sunset from a viewpoint along the winding roads of Chapman’s Peak Drive.

Day THREE

Cultural explorations

Today we explore the fascinating history of South Africa’s first people.

Leaving the city, we head up the west coast to the world’s only cultural heritage centre dedicated to the San people of Africa.

Here we either hop on a mountain bike or lace up our trainers for a walk or a run through threatened coastal fynbos, with a good chance of seeing a variety of game along the way.

After lunch, we enjoy a guided experience showcasing the heritage, knowledge and skills of the San before returning to Cape Town.

The day ends with cocktails near your hotel, where we meet with a local music professor who is at the sharp edge of new historical findings that point to some startling new narratives in the early history of the Cape.

Day FOUR

Cape Winelands

We spend today in quintessential Cape wine country, just an hour from the city.

Select from a choice of hikes this morning – enjoy a classic wine country trail through the vineyards and onto the lower slopes of the surrounding mountains to get some elevation to appreciate the views.

Or take on a more strenuous mountain hike up to a stunning viewpoint in mountains above the village.

You may decide you would rather spend the morning on the bike. In that case, we’ll ride from one winelands town to another, enjoying exceptional mountain and vineyard views along the way.

We end the morning at lunch with a winemaker friend on his estate and plenty of time to sample his wines and another of the great vineyards in the area.

The day ends back in Cape Town or at your next destination, depending on your onward travel arrangements.

WHEN TO GO
The Cape is a year-round destination, but experiences its best weather in the summer months, between January and April. There is a minimal chance of rain and the south easterly wind is less fierce than it is during November and December.

September and October are cool (can be cold), but this is when the spring wild flowers are blooming and the Cape is at its most beautiful.

May through August are the wettest and coldest months, but between the rain showers are some crystal clear, beautiful days.
YOU SHOULD KNOW
This programme is not suitable for children under the age of 6 due to the active nature of the itinerary.

However, we can adapt the itinerary in any way required, to accommodate young children.

We cannot control the weather – this is an outdoor, nature based itinerary and indoor alternatives are limited, if non-existent. Come prepared to be take on the elements if the weather is not playing fair.
